Subject: Gopher Server
Is there a Gopher SERVER which will operate under winsock
or otherwise on a PC?
Thanks for any input.

Hi Paul,
As visual basic stands, it looks like the answer in no. The hostent data
structure (which is used for such, oh, noteworthy functions like
gethostbyname, cannot be realized in VB because it contains lists of lists.
There are two vb add-ons in the public domain/shareware I have now tried:
VB-Winsock, by some guy in Britain. I just got the new version, Alpha 0.3, and
unlike 0.1, it doesn't work. Can't connect to nothin', ever. The other one,
VT-Sockets, puts up an annoying shareware notice EVERY TIME the control is
accessed (start of program, editing form with control placed, etc.) The
commercial GCP++ and Distinct both have royalty-based distribution AND
middle-man applications which are silly.
I'd love any help I could get. Hell, all we really need for a blocking telnet
app is a function to return the winsock long needed to connect a socket. I
hope to have some time this weekend to put my new Symantec C++ 6.1 through
some warm-ups, and if I can figure out making a VBX myself, I'll do it (after
recovering from the shock of UNDERSTANDING C++).
Anyone else have suggestions?
Chris

Subject: Is there a routing winsock TCP/IP stack?
Hi Folks,
I'm sure this must have been asked before, but I've taken a look at several
FAQs and not seen a direct answer.
I'm looking for a TCP/IP stack with a Winsock interface that can support
both a SLIP line and an Ethernet card and is able to route between them.
I'd like to set up a system to act mainly as a FTP server on the end of my
SLIP line, but which can still run clients in other windows, whilst at the
same time acting as an Ethernet to SLIP router for other systems on the
Ethernet. Functionality and stability are more important than performance
at this stage.
Please reply by mail as well as following up, since I sometimes don't get
to see all posts in this group.
Cheers, Dieter.

Subject: Univation driver quest
I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who is suffering from a dead newsserver.
Address below...
*****************************************************************************
Hello,
I just got some Ethernet cards that are really old, and am needing
some drivers. I would like to be able to use this on some Messy-DOS Computers
that use NDIS drivers.
I also have SCO, and ISC3.0, and AT&T SVR3.2.3 which would be nice, but
I don't hold much hope for them.
CARD DESCRIPTION:
MFG: Univation, Inc Milpitas, CA (I've tried Information.)
Says ETHERNET LAN CONTROLLER up at the top, Dated 1986, and on
the back it says PART NO. 1010795-000 REV G.
The card has a Thin-Net port, and an AUI Port, Jumpers for
memory address, IRQ, and port address, and needless to say is an
8-bit card.
